 Michael Lord

Original One-of-a-Kind

Magnificent Stone Owl Sculpture.
Approximately 11-1/2" tall and 11-1/2" wide

$3,900.00

Michael Lord

Self-taught Canadian stone carver Michael Lord discovered his passion at an early age.

His high school art teacher bought his first stone sculpture at the age of sixteen.

Since that time, Michael has turned his raw talent into a highly successful career as a master stone carver.

Amazingly, each of Michael's pieces is created from a single piece of steatite stone.

Using only the most basic of hand tools, Michael achieves a highly detailed and animated image in every piece he produces.

Because each stone has its own inclusions and structure, the stone itself must dictate the image that he can produce.

He uses no photos, diagrams or sketches.

It is incredible that Michael has the ability to draw out such a diverse collection of imagery from such a demanding medium.

The expression and movement that he is able to attain in such a unforgiving medium is testament to his expertise as a sculptor.

His attention to detail, be it intricate featherwork or deep negative space, is unparalleled.

His skill as an artist enables him to realize a multitude of different textures in just the one piece, enhancing the outstanding realism in his work.

The expert inlay of obsidian stone for the eyes of his animals is the final touch bringing the finished piece to life.

Such lifelike detailing in stone are rarely seen, and have made Michael's work a part of private collections the world over.

Statement from the Artist:

"The creative process chose me. Drawing, painting, sculpting has always been my way of expression. Whether my livelihood or not, I would always be doing these things."

 Rob MacIntosh

"Golden Eye"

Framed Original Pastel
Approximately 9" x 12" Not Including Frame

$2,000.00

Rob MacIntosh, realist painter of Wildlife, landscape, seascapes and portraits in oils and pastel. His work is featured in top galleries in South Africa, America, Canada and England.

In South Africa he is rated as one of the top artists in the country.

Early Years in Africa

Born in South Africa in 1949.

As a child he recalls " I always loved drawing. I was often commissioned by other children to do their school drawings and as for myself never really was interested in school except for the weekly art lesson."

A self taught artist, painting full time in 1980. During his novice years as an artist he ventured from seascape to landscape. Finally in 1983 he started painting African wildlife. Traveling extensively throughout Africa he was able to capture the African bush and wildlife the continent had to offer. During this time he was also commissioned to paint portraits of famous people throughout the world.

United States of America

In 1983 he traveled to America to visit major galleries in various states and was accepted by one of the top galleries in Scottsdale Arizona. The opportunities and the competition fascinated him, but most of all he loved the challenge to compete with the world's best.
If a South African artist is meeting with professional success in this country, what could possibly cause him to search for a new market in the United States? Rob MacIntosh explains what caused him to uproot to the USA. "One prime reason", he stated, "was that South Africa, at the time, was too small a country to really give me the opportunity to improve and compete with the Masters of the World".

His fifteen year stay in America gave him the opportunity to compete with the best artists in the word and win several awards. When he won the highest award attainable beating the world's best, he knew his dedication, determination and hard work had paid off.

African Homecoming

In 2003, Rob MacIntosh returned to his home on South Africa's South Coast. Once a South African, always a South African. "America gave me the opportunity to develop my style and grow as an artist."

 Craig Bone

Craig Bone's extraordinary paintings capture the magnificent beauty of Africa's native wildlife in breathtaking detail.
Born in Harare, Zimbabwe (formerly Salisbury, Rhodesia), Bone's earliest artistic inclinations were evidenced by cartoon drawings of his teachers.
Bone studied graphic design at Natal University in South Africa before returning to his homeland to begin a military career in 1977.
While a member of Rhodesia's Light Infantry, Bone painted vivid scenes of combat.
A severe war injury forced his retirement and resulted in his decision to paint full time.
Inspired by a trip into the Zambezi Valley bushveld, the artist began to paint African wildlife in their native habitat.
In his signature style of meticulous realism, Bone offers the viewer a magical encounter with elusive animals and a fleeting glimpse of Africa's exotic beauty.

The artist currently resides in a remote area of Northern Zimbabwe and travels through Zimbabwe, Botswana and Mozambique spending countless hours observing and photographing wildlife.

Bone's work is represented in numerous museums worldwide and he has illustrated several books that celebrate the diverse landscape of Africa.

On February 24, 1998, his painting "On The Prowl," was featured on the cover of Christie's Auction house Catalog and was sold for $41,000.00.

 James Tandi

"Warthog with Baby"

Verdite Semi-Precious Stone Sculpture
Signed. Approximately 14" tall x 12" wide x 13" deep.
 (Baby has removable tusks.)

$3,900.00
James Tandi

James Tandi was born in the Bindura district of Zimbabwe in 1956. Under the tutelage of his older brother, renowned sculptor Nicholas Tandi, James quickly showed a natural talent for sculpting and began working in a variety of mediums including wood, soapstone and serpentine. However, it was James’ mastery of the semi-precious stone, verdite and ruby verdite (also knows as the “green stone” of Africa), which propelled him into the international art spotlight.

James works in the classical method using hammer and chisel to beautifully capture the native African people and indigenous wildlife of southern Africa. Each sculpture begins with James visiting the verdite mine where he selects his own stone. Unlike marble, which can be cut to accommodate the subject of the sculpture, verdite comes from the mine in a variety of shapes which will invariably dictate what will be created.

James refers to this process as “revealing the spirit which is within the stone”. After painstakingly removing layer upon layer of stone and carving each minute detail, the sculpture is wet-sanded and fired to a high temperature before applying stone wax. Each piece is then hand polished to a beautiful luster.

James has participated in international one-man and group exhibitions. His list of collectors has grown steadily over the last ten years and his works can be found in both African and North American museums such as the International Wildlife Museum in Tucson, Arizona.
